This disabled offshore worker is apparently a regular at the Manchuria Restaurant, eating there as often as three times a week. He also eats with his cousin, a svelte 277 pounder, who both claim they have been discriminated for their size.
Well, let's boil this down. These two (obviously hearty eaters) go to this restaurant regularly, and their choice of fare is the more expensive items in the buffet, namely the crab legs and the frog legs. (Yummy). This has (and with good reason) upset the restaurant and so they decided to charge the duo for their ummm, excessive consumption.
It makes sense to me.
The police needed to be called, but apparently the restaurant owner decided to just comp the guys their bill and asked them to never return.
There are a few things wrong -- the first being that this made the news at all!
But since it did, let's side with the restaurant first: Any restaurant that serves an all-you-can-eat buffet is hoping that the big eaters are balanced out by the little eaters. It's safe to say that they are screwed every time 500 pounds of people walks through the door and starts eating. And eating. And eating. I mean, can't you just hear the conversations behind the kitchen doors? "Those two are back, they've filled their plates with ALL of the frogs legs (more power to them, those are disgusting) and crab ... we're not bringing any more out."
"Oh shoot, a lovely family with small stomachs is approaching the buffet, they deserve frogs legs. Hey you, waittress, go tell those fatties that they are too fat and not to come back."
And the big guys? They think they're beating the system. "It says all you can eat, and boy can we eat!" They're not wrong. The restaurant needs to qualify it somehow. Though I can't think of how.
All you can eat as long as you don't eat like a pig? Nah, that probably wouldn't work.
All you can eat as long as you're not these two -- and put up their photos -- ... these two can only eat off the regular menu!
I don't know. I just thought it was funny. But it is clearly a dilemma for this poor restaurant! I remember we used to go to this all-you-can-eat buffet at this pizza place, and the guy who owned the place served each slice. You had to go up to the table of pizza's and choose which ones you wanted, and then HE would put it on your plate. It was not a free-for-all. He made it quite clear that you weren't to take any more than one or two pieces, and if you did go back, he made you feel quite guilty. So, he had it figured out. But man, talk about a control freak! He was the total Pizza Nazi.
At least I didn't blog about Brittney Spears! And I never will. Well, I might.
Nah.

THANK you for NOT blogging about Brittney Spears. I think if the restuarant posts "all you can eat" they should stick too it. Hey, it's a risk that they take!
btw - how many cosmo's did you have before finding this article?
Now why did you think I was drinking and writing!!! I wasn't!
Though truth be told, Peter kept calling me to the living room to figure out why the TV wouldn't work. So I was quite scattered and had to return to it like three times.
So you think that if the hefty guys want to eat there, they should not be penalized for having larger stomachs than the average bear?
LOL.
Yes. If they want to advertise "all you can eat" then it must be for everyone! Do you think they would offer refunds for someone who only chose to have lettuce? Nope!
Okay, Okay, I was just trying to play devil's advocate. But you do remember they were eating ALL the frogs legs and the crab legs. They had leg issues!
Yes, I understand. Maybe they were hoping the extra legs would help their own legs carry around all of their extra weight. It must be exhausting you know, walking up to the buffet so many times!
ROFL! I never thought about that. You are right -- they needed the protein to bolster up their energy for future trips.
This is the RESTAURANT's fault -- plain and simple. They have presented an opportunity for people who clearly don't have the ability to stop eating. It's mean and petty -- and cruel.
All you can eat means different things to different people. Buffets should be banned. In fact, it should be against the law to serve abundant amounts of food for one price fits all, because we all know, one size, one price, never fits all.
Exactly. That's what I was trying to say - it IS the restuarants fault. Love the one size, one price doesn't fit all comment. Hee hee. Before we know it, they'll be cloning buffet food too. They'll be more than ANYONE can eat! I bet the FDA will approve that too. Yikes.
